Automobile insurance is usually less expensive for the residents of Saskatchewan. The provinces of Alberta and British Columbia traditionally have had higher rates. Many of the insurers in Alberta have applied and received rate increases for the physical damage (Section C) portion of automobile policies. These increases are starting to appear starting April 1st.
Now Saskatchewan Government Insurance has requested an overall 4.2 per cent rate increase starting Nov. 1. This rate increase is stated as necessary due to rising costs. The effects will vary depending on the make and model of the cars so it is similar to the rate increases in Alberta.
One of the differences between provinces is that some Saskatchewan drivers could actually end up paying less after the adjustment is done.
Check with your broker or agent as to what rate increases are coming for your company. It is usual that the information is given out ahead of the effective date.
